HUMIDITY PROBLEMS
When goods are moved from hot to cooler climates, the Relative Humidity (RH) will increase when the temperature drops, which can cause moisture damage to the goods. There are a simple explanation for this :
"warm air holds more water than cold air"
When the temperature drops, the moisture in the air will reach the dew point and condense inside the container. That is the main cause of moisture damage on your valuable goods.
All too often we find goods stored for a long period of time become ruined through
moisture damage,
mold,
corrosion and
mildew, with the effect that, they can not be used anymore. Whereas, they were kept in a good condition previously.
Most exporters face the same problems as well. Many goods in the containers shipped overseas have become spoiled. Their buyers found either the goods or the packaging were
wet,
moldy and even
broken on arrival, consequently they claimed to the exporters and even no longer make any orders.
How could it happen? According to the related research, the main cause of it is the over humid air. For how humid air shall make serious damage occur and ruin the goods/cargoes shipped, please find the following detailed explanation..
What is humid air?
Humid air is air that contains water vapor, where the more water vapor, there is in the air, the higher the relative humidity (RH)/humid air, on the contrary, the less water vapor there is in the air, the lower the relative humidity (RH)/dry air.
How shall humid air influence the quality of the goods/products?
Microorganisms and bacteria shall proliferate quickly as soon as the relative humidity (RH) of a place is more than 40%. As the effect of that, the fungus, corrosion, stain shall occur over the goods/products kept for longer time.
In the condition that there is high temperature inside and outside the container and the quickly changing weather, a condensation process shall occur causing the vapor in the air to turn into liquid, making the goods/products wet. Finally, they are ruined.
The simple examples of the condensation process in daily life are:
- A glass is filled by hot coffee/tea and covered. After a few minutes, we take the cover off, we will find condensation on that.
- A glass is filled by ice water. After a few minutes, we will find condensation on the outside of the glass.
- While raining, we are driving a car in condition that the air conditioner (AC) is off and all of the windows are closed, we will find condensation inside the window. But it shall vanish as soon as the AC is on.
- However, we shall find dew outside the window of the car in condition that the AC is on maximum / so cold.
How do we prevent the damages due to humid air?
The only way to solve the problems due to the humid air is by absorbing the water vapor in the humid air by using a humidity absorber. As a result, the vapor in the air shall reduce, so the air shall become dry. Consequently, the quality of goods kept for longer time will not change.
How does Ultradry work to absorb the humid air?
Ultradry actively binds the molecules of water vapor in the air and turns them into a gel. In this “gel system”, the molecules of vapor react with the active raw material of Ultradry becoming a very tight compound, hence never becoming vapor anymore.
Therefore, it can be said that the vapor in the air will decrease and the humid air turns into the dry air.
What does Ultradry consist of?
Ultradry is made from the combination of hydroscopic natural material (enable to bind molecules of vapor) and the use of air penetrable and water resistant packaging that consists of spun-bond material and strong anti-tear/perforation LDPE plastic.
Is Ultradry recycle-able and environmentally friendly?
Different from Silica Gel or the other related products, Ultradry is made from natural materials, so it is non toxic, hence it is recycle-able and environmentally friendly.
How about the application of Ultradry used in warehouses or containers?
The application of Ultradry used in warehouses and containers is very easy as it has been designed especially for warehouses/containers, that is by proportionally hanging Ultradry on the wall of the warehouses/containers pursuant to the dimension of the warehouse/container it self, or by placing them on the floor of the warehouses/containers.
Based on the related research, it has been found that there is a relationship between weather/temperature and the amount of water vapor in the air in condition that the Relative Humidity (RH) is 100% as explained below table:

Denoting to the above table, it has been known that there is 30,1 gr/m3 of vapor in temperature 30˚C, so the amount of Ultradry required in the warehouse/container could be calculated easily as follows:
Container 20 feet, dimension: 33.5 m3, RH: 70%, temperature: 30˚C
Vapor must be absorbed : 70% x 30.1 x 33.5 = 705 gr/day
Within 25 days voyage : 25 x 705 = 17,625 gr of vapor
Absorption capacity of Ultradry 2000 gram/kg = 17.646.125/2000 = 9 Kg.
(under the condition that the container is empty/not being loaded)
This calculation with basis that the capacity of air in the container fully loaded shall decrease up to 50%, so the Ultradry required is 50% x 9 kg = 4.5 kg
Container 40 feet, dimension: 67 m3, RH: 70%,temperature: 30˚C
The vapor must be absorbed : 70% x 30.1 x 67 = 1.411 gr/day
25 days voyage : 25 x 1.411.69 = 35.292.25 gr or vapor
Absorption capacity of Ultradry 2000 gram/kg = 35.292.25:2000 = 18 Kg.(under the condition that the container is empty/not being loaded)
This calculation with basis that the capacity of air in the container fully loaded shall decrease up to 50%, so the Ultradry required is 50% x 18 kg = 9 kg
What are the superiorities of Ultradry compared to the other related products?
Ultradry has superiorities as follows:
- Much more absorption capacity : maximum in 2000 gram of vapor/kg
- Safer and leak proof à the “gel system” (lets the air turns into gel) and the water resistant packaging make Ultradry safer to be used.
- Recycle-able and environmentally friendly. Ultradry is made of non toxic natural material that is recycle-able and environmentally friendly.
